{"id":369,"date":"2019-12-02T09:43:00","date_gmt":"2019-12-02T07:43:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/en.naqa.gov.ua\/?p=369"},"modified":"2020-10-06T11:23:42","modified_gmt":"2020-10-06T08:23:42","slug":"enhancing-academic-integrity-in-ukrainian-higher-education","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/en.naqa.gov.ua\/?p=369","title":{"rendered":"ENHANCING ACADEMIC INTEGRITY IN UKRAINIAN HIGHER EDUCATION"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The National Agency for Higher Education Quality Assurance (NAQA) greatly appreciates the comments and suggestions on the proposed <a href=\"https:\/\/en.naqa.gov.ua\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/NJ_Leah-Wortham_Report-with-Recs_on_Academic-Integrity.pdf\">Procedure for the annulment of decisions of specialized academic councils to confer a research degree<\/a> developed by Professor Lear Wortham and supported by USAID. NAQA is pleased to get to know that Prof. Worthham considers the proposed Procedure to be an excellent document &#8220;<em>which does a good job of the tough task of balancing considerations&nbsp;involved<\/em>&#8221; and prizes the inclusion of the regulation&nbsp;&#8220;<em>there are&nbsp;<\/em><em>potential consequences, not only to the person who submitted it&nbsp;<\/em><em>but also, to the dissertation supervisor, those who provided positive assessments of the paper, the head of the Specialized Academic&nbsp;Council<\/em>&nbsp;&#8230;&#8221;. The National Agency also values Prof.Wortham&#8217;s&nbsp;suggestions including&nbsp;to address the problems with ghostwriting and contract cheating. This issue has been raised and discussed at the NAQA&nbsp;meetings and &#8216;ghostwriting&#8217; was identified as a serious problem which&nbsp;should be regulated by the Ukrainian&nbsp;legislation.
