Tricia Bertram Gallant, Ph.D. has over 25 years of experience in higher education in Canada and the United States as a researcher, teacher and administrator. For the last 18 years, she has specialized in applying higher education management and organizational theory to answer questions about integrity and ethics. She has been an ethics and higher education lecturer with the University of San Diego and UC San Diego, and currently serves as Director for UC San Diego’s Academic Integrity Office and Board Emeritus for the International Center for Academic Integrity (ICAI).
Dr. Bertram Gallant has authored, co-authored, or edited numerous articles, book chapters/sections, and books on academic integrity, perhaps best known as author of Academic Integrity in the Twenty-First Century: A Teaching and Learning Imperative (Wiley’s Jossey-Bass, 2008), co-author of Cheating in School: What We Know and What We Can Do (Wiley-Blackwell, 2009), editor of Creating the Ethical Academy: A Systems Approach to Understanding Misconduct & Empowering Change in Higher Education (Routledge, 2011), and section editor for the Handbook of Academic Integrity (Springer, 2016).
In her capacity as an academic integrity office director, she has overseen the management of over 10,000 academic integrity violation allegations and the delivery of academic integrity training after an integrity violation to almost 5000 students. In her capacity with ICAI, Bertram Gallant co-led the creation of regional consortiums, led the creation of the Academic Integrity Rating Systems (AIRS) project, led the development of the Trusted Seal Program, chaired the Advisory Council, led the development of the Academic Integrity Reader and the Contract Cheating Advocacy project, and co-chaired the transition of ICAI from a university program to an independent non-profit organization.
Dr. Bertram Gallant has applied her experiences and knowledge to help institutions in the U.S. and around the world in Australia, Canada, Chile, Egypt, Jamaica, Mexico, Montenegro, Singapore, the UK, and Ukraine to develop academic integrity systems, build cultures of integrity, manage academic integrity processes and offices, revamp online and face-to-face classrooms to reduce cheating and enhance integrity and, teach students about academic integrity, professional ethics, and ethical decision-making.
