The European University Association (EUA) has already suspended the membership of 14 organizations from Russia and continues to support Ukraine

On March 25, 2022, the EUA issued a newsletter expressing solidarity with Ukraine.

“On 2 March, EUA issued a strong statement, condemning the aggression against Ukraine and stressing our solidarity with the universities, and indeed the entire population, of the country. The statement highlighted a number of support actions, including EUA’s commitment to providing assistance to Ukrainian universities in whatever way possible, and ceasing any contact or collaboration with central government agencies of the Russian Federation. It also recognised the value of individual peer-to-peer academic relationships, advising member universities to consider collaborations on a case-by-case basis to ensure that they remain appropriate.

Since the statement was published, the EUA Board has had to take the decision to suspend the membership of 14 Russian members, whose leaders have backed a statement by the Russian Union of Rectors which explicitly supports the invasion of Ukraine. This statement is diametrically opposed to the European values that these organisations committed to when they joined EUA.

In terms of support for the Ukrainian higher education community, EUA has launched a new webpage which gathers statements of support and information about concrete initiative.»
