One of the areas of NAQA work is to prevent, obstruct and stop cases of academic integrity violations in the field of education quality. This is ensured through trainings, guidance and mentoring, workshops and webinars in the field of academic integrity.
Oleksandr Khymenko raised this important issue of modern Ukrainian education in his speech to the Summer School of Young Scientists.
He talked about the legislative basis of academic integrity, its attributes and types of violations, emphasising that currently the legislative framework for regulating academic integrity needs to be improved. He also outlined the need to create a culture of integrity from the primary level of education, as this will help to avoid the problems of plagiarism, fabrication and falsification in higher education. Significant attention was also drawn to the controversial topic of self-plagiarism and its consequences. A number of cases were presented for practical consideration of violations of academic integrity. At the end of his speech, answering questions from the audience, Oleksandr Khymenko spoke about the process of preparing the draft Law “On Academic Integrity” and the use of artificial intelligence in scientific work.
Discussing this topic is a step towards strengthening academic culture and contributing to the development of the next generation of scientists, as the Young Scientist Summer School 3.0 is a project initiated by the Council of Young Scientists for first-year PhD students.
