On 18 April, Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv hosted a conference on “Strategy for building human resources in Ukraine in the field of cybersecurity and information protection” as part of a series of “Cyber Ukraine” events. The conference brought together representatives of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, rectors of higher education institutions, the National Security and Defence Council of Ukraine, the Security Service of Ukraine and the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine to discuss the 21st professional standard in the field of cybersecurity and cyber defence, namely the necessity of implementation and improvement, as well as the need to bring the educational standard in line with them.
“The educational and professional standard is what unites customers, practitioners, scientists, students, and NAQA in this discussion… Everyone needs cybersecurity: energy companies, special services, government organisations… The needs are different, so there are many professional standards, but there will be one educational standard. And it is an extremely difficult task to implement all this into one educational standard.”
Andrii Butenko, NAQA Head, noted in his introductory speech
Bohdan Morklyanyk, NAQA Vice Head, presented a report “Peculiarities of training specialists in cybersecurity and information protection: experience in assessing the quality requirements for study programmes”, in which he noted the existence of provisions in the educational standard that do not allow universities to take any initiative, which makes it difficult to talk about any innovation and pilot projects.
