A working meeting was held between NAQA representatives and the leadership and support team for the restoration and reform of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources of Ukraine. The parties discussed potential areas of cooperation in the field of sustainable development and green recovery in Ukraine.
One of the current European trends is the increasing role of universities in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This trend is reflected, in particular, in prestigious global university rankings (THE Impact Ranking, QS Sustainability, UI GreenMetric), to which an increasing number of Ukrainian higher education institutions are contributing year by year.
NAQA remains consistent in its position that every study programme should align with the SDGs and contribute to their implementation. It is no surprise that the Criteria for the Evaluation of Study Programmes, which are in line with European standards, include sustainable development principles as an important component.
NAQA is gathering best practices for integrating the SDGs into the Ukrainian higher education system, giving significant attention to this topic during the annual Ukrainian Quality Higher Education Forum, other public events, and within international projects aimed at the green transformation of the educational space. At the same time, participants emphasised that the implementation of the SDGs must cover all levels of education — from preschool to higher education, starting from kindergartens and schools, as evidenced by the best global practices, including the Japanese experience.
As a result of the meeting, NAQA and the Ministry agreed to develop joint ideas and projects for the further implementation of environmental initiatives in the educational space to ensure the sustainable and harmonious development of Ukraine’s educational ecosystem.
